Today the Makeup Wars team is sharing a recent beauty splurge. My most recent, and slightly heart stopping, splurge was on Colourpop cosmetics. I couldn’t resist trying Colourpop any longer and placed two very large orders back to back. The Colourpop line is incredibly affordable but factor in the US to CAD exchange rate, shipping fee, duties and taxes, and the quantity of what I ordered and it turned out to be a very large splurge. I am not disappointed with my purchases. You really can’t beat the price and the quality, shades, and finishes are wonderful. I have so many truly unique additions to my collection now. I did have several broken Colourpop Super Shock shadows in each of my orders but Colourpop was very good at immediately sending out replacements. I am still waiting on the replacements for my second order, hence the broken shadows in the images below, but I couldn’t wait any longer to start taking pics and using my new pretties. I wanted to keep them all pristine and wait until I had all in hand prior to taking photos but I couldn’t hold out any longer. My apologies for the fact that some of the shadows were already used in the pics.
My orders predominately consisted of Colourpop Super Shock Shadows. I think I ordered pretty much all of the Metallic and Ultra-Metallic finish shades as these are where the Colourpop formula really stands out. I also really wanted to build my Lip Liner collection and at $5 a pop I couldn’t resist ordered several of the Colourpop Lippie Pencils. I have so many lipsticks so I resisted ordering any of the Lippie Stix lipsticks until my second order and only order 3 of the shades to match the coordinating Lippie Pencils I already had. I also waited until the second order to order two of the Ultra Matte Lip liquid lipsticks. Mostly because I am not really a fan of matte liquid lipsticks, or really matte lipsticks in general. I ordered some of the Creme Gel Liner pencils with both of my orders.
The Colourpop Super Shock Shadows ($5 US) have a very unique formula. They are a very light mousse cream texture similar to the Maybelline Dream Bouncy Blushes but with more of a wet feel. They apply best with fingers, but do apply nicely with a flat, dense, synthetic brush. I have also used natural hair brushes applying on the inner corners of my eyes and lower lashline with nice results. You can blend out the shadows with ease but I find with some of the darker shades that have a blacker base that they don’t blend out quite as nicely.
I did not order any matte Super Shock shadows as I really wasn’t interested in them. I don’t see the point in bothering with trying to make this formula work for a complete eye look. Of course you can, and get great results, but I would rather do my base shadow and matte crease shadow application with my favourite matte powder shadows and use the Super Shock shadows on my lid, outer v, and inner corner where they perform best and with ease. I have created full eye looks with Colourpop shadows that I love and turn to for a quick, everyday eye like the combo of Acorn from lid to brow and Mixed tape in the crease and outer v. Effortless perfection.

I am really happy with the Super Shock shadows. I am obsessed with so many of the shades and finishes. The pigmentation is exceptional and even the few shades that had a bit sheerer pigmentation can be built up easily. These shadows also last incredibly well. All day. Heck I even slept in my makeup one night (shhhh I NEVER do that but it was a late night and we didn’t go home) and my eye look still looked perfect the next day. Unless you go crazy blending you also don’t even experience any glitter fallout with even the most shimmery shades. These shadows really are as wonderful as everyone says they are.
I just realized that I don’t have I Heart This! I thought I ordered it with my first order? AGH! Now I definitely need to place another order!
I think the products I am most excited about are the Colourpop Lippie Pencils ($5 US). These are one of the best lip liners I have ever used. They are incredibly creamy and ultra pigmented. They apply smoothly and with full coverage in a single pass. They set to a waterproof and budge proof finish. I really, really love the formula. I had read some reviews of people having issues with the caps falling off but I haven’t experienced that at all. All of my caps are fully secure. You do have to push them all the way on to secure them. Maybe people aren’t realizing that you need to give that final little push to lock the caps on? My only disappointment is that I ordered most of what I considered to be the lighter shades they offered and they are deeper than I was hoping for/expecting.
The shades I have are:
- Skimpy – soft warm nude beige.
- Tootsi – cool toned grey beige (greige).
- Contempo – matte mid dusty rose.
- Lumiére – dusty mauve pink.
- Oh Snap – pale dirty nude pink.
- Grind – vivid blue violet.
- Leather – deep blackened violet.

The Colourpop Ultra Matte Lip ($6 US) are a really nice matte liquid lipstick formula. Very long wearing and slightly drying but a nice formula overall. I am not a huge fan of the matte lip look so I haven’t tested these out too extensively yet but I will try to update once I form more of an opinion. I ordered:
- Trap – dusty greyed out beige (greige).
- Stingraye – cool toned mauve brown.
I ended up ordering three Colourpop Lippie Stix ($5 US) lipsticks with my second order to give the formula a try. They have a lovely creamy texture that is very comfortable to wear. The pigmentation is wonderful. They do have a strong sweet scent that I am not terribly fond of. Wear time is fairly good. I get several hours wear out of them. The shades I tried are:
- Tootsi – cool toned grey beige (greige).
- Oh Snap – pale dirty nude pink.
- Grind – vivid blue violet.

I am also really impressed with the Colourpop Creme Gel Liners ($5 US). I started out with two metallic shades in my first order and they are absolutely stunning. Rich, intense pigment with an ultra creamy texture and incredibly long wear. I adore them. I followed up by ordering a few of the matte shades with my second order. They have a bit drier formula but still have really nice pigmentation and smooth application. I do find I may need to do more than one pass for full opacity but they are still really easy to work with and they have become my daily go to shades. Both formulas offer exceptional wear. I love that the matte shades I ordered give you the hint of colour while still being deep and dark enough to offer full impact and accentuate your lashline.
The shades I have are:
- Get Paid – metallic rose gold.
- Over Board – warm metallic bronze.
- Call Me – deep plummy brown.
- Best O – deepened burgundy.
- No Shame – blackened violet.

Are you a Colourpop junkie. I find I’m having to resist placing another order!
